Sergei Fedorov was known as one of the most skillful and creative players of his time when he played in the National Hockey League and it looks as if that creative side has followed him during his coaching career.
Fedorov is now the Head Coach of CSKA Moscow of the KHL and his creativity on the ice has translated quite well as he steps behind the bench.
During the first overtime of the KHL season, Fedorov pulled the goalie to turn the overtime to a 4 on 3. A risky move to be sure as one wrong move would put the puck into the empty net at the other end. However, his gamble paid off for CSKA after a couple minutes of offensive zone pressure, they eventually were able to net the game winner.
One thing about Fedorov has always his nerves of steel. Watching that overtime play out from here gave me anxiety, I can't imagine what it would've been like from behind the bench. But Federov has employed this strategy on multiple occasions and been successful.
Whatever it takes to to win, isn't that what they always say?
