Sharks & Meier camp appear far apart on contract extension
The National Hockey League Trade deadline is March 3, 2023, and as its' thirty-three days away, rumours about some of the biggest trade commodities keep heating up.
Timo Meier, the twenty-six-year-old Swiss forward, playing for the San Jose Sharks is one of those who are highly sought after.
Historically it's common practice that an asset at the end of their contract begins negotiations through their agent to see if the player can reach a deal to remain with the club, in the case of Meier, it would appear that Mike Grier and the Sharks office haven't even reached out.
The reported ask from Meiers' camp is believed to start in the range of $9,000,000 per year, many feel that this alone may be a reason for the Sharks to be ready to move on. The Carolina Hurricanes who may have the capital and the space as they've put Max Pacioretty on LTIR again & the Buffalo Sabres who are currently sitting with $18,000,000 in cap space while having a number of assets San Jose may want are the two teams in the running if the Sharks do in fact feel a mutual parting of ways is the only way to resolve this issue.
