Tampa Tried To Extend Killorn With Long-Term Deal
Forward Alex Killorn landed himself a huge pay on the opening of Free Agency signing a four-year, $25-million contract, with the rebuilding Anaheim Ducks. This works out to $6.25 AAV.
Insider Pierre LeBrun reports that the Tampa Bay Lightning made a final offer to Killorn, eight years with a $2.25 AAV. This would work out to $20 million over the eight years.
General Manager Julien BriseBois has used the strategy of offering long-term contracts to try and bring the AAV down. He was successful in doing that with Anthony Cirelli, Nick Paul and Erik Cernak.
An eight-year deal for a 33 year old would have risk all over it. In the end Killorn chose the financial security. Killorn is coming off a 7 year, $31,150,000 signed with Tampa in the summer of 2016.
