The San Jose Sharks asking price for Erik Karlsson makes a trade almost impossible
The asking price for Erik Karlsson has reached insanity. NHL Reporter Fran Seravalli states that the San Jose Sharks are asking for three first round picks and the Sharks are willing to retain just 18 percent of his salary. This is an absolutely absurd asking price from General Manager Mike Grier. Erik Karlsson is having a fantastic season and leading all defenseman in points. He looks like the Erik Karlsson of old who consistently put up points every night for the Senators. Even still, Karlsson and his is over inflated salary are not worth such a steep asking price.
As a result of this ridiculous asking price, look for the Sharks to keep Karlsson for now. Karlsson is due $11.5 million dollars for the next five season. That will make it tough to trade him and tough for the San Jose Sharks to have any salary cap room.
It has been nice to see Karlsson return to the form the way he played in Ottawa. He is having a fantastic season with the Sharks and has already recorded fifty six points in just forty four games played. If Karlsson can continue his good play he might have a shot at reaching one hundred points in a season. That hasn't been achieved since the early nineties when Brian Leetch had 102 in the 1991-92 season.
