The Three Norris Trophy Finalists Have Been Announced
Today the NHL unveiled their 3 finalists for this year's Norris Trophy. This year's finalists are:
Victor Hedman has helped to push the Tampa Bay Lightning to a possible, three-peat, with 20 goals and 65 assists, for 85 points in 82 games. Hedman's other impressive stats include: being second on points scored behind Captain Steven Stamkos, a +26 rating, and also 25:05 TOI. In addition, racked up 3:35 power play-time.
A finalist for the sixth straight season, Hedman won the award in 2017-18 and finished third each of the past three seasons. He helped the back-to-back Stanley Cup champion Lightning (51-23-8) qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the eighth time in nine seasons.
Next up is Roman Josi, who has led the pack in scoring with 23 goals and 73 assists, 11 power-play goals, and has become the first defenseman since Ray Borque in 1993-1994 to put up 90 points in a season. This isn't the only record he's set, as he had at least one point in 54 games this season, with 12 games tallying 3 points.
This is Josi's 2nd appearance, since winning the Trophy in 2019-2020, also a determining factor in pushing the Predators into a playoff spot with his excellent play.
Cale Makar is the leading defensive scorer for the Avalanche with 28 goals, with 86 points, coming in second to Josi. He comes into the fold with a +48 on-ice rating, with teammates like MacKinnon, it's no wonder he's second in even-strength points with 52 and an impressive 25:40 TOI.
The runner-up for the Norris Trophy last season, Makar helped Colorado finish first in the Western Conference during the regular season (56-19-7) and would be the first Avalanche player to win the award.
