The Ottawa Senators have made tremendous strides in the forward department this year, most notably adding Alex DeBrincat via trade and Claude Giroux through free agency, but it would appear they need to add a serious player on defence to be taken seriously. Otherwise, outside of Thomas Chabot, the Sens are icing an almost AHL defensive corps. However, help on the defensive end may come at an astronomical cost.
The Sens have been in on Arizona star blueliner Jakob Chrychrun for most of the off-season, and it looks like the price to get him out of Arizona is higher than most thought as reported by Brent Wallace:
To get Chychrun to Ottawa, it will cost at least two first round picks, a blue chip prospect and Arizona would have to take the contract of Nikita Zaitsev.
Listen, I know Chychrun is good, but that asking price, if I'm Ottawa isn't worth it, especially considering they emptied the cupboards for DeBrincat as well. You do what you have to in order to get good players on your team, but the cost has to stop somewhere.
