Top prospect refusing to sign with the Buffalo Sabres, will become a free agent
The Buffalo Sabres prospect pipeline has become deeper in recent years, with Kevyn Adams drafting well. With the rebuild in motion and the team gelling well, there are always unexpected casualties of talent management.
The Sabres have such a deep pool of talent after the last few drafts one prospect, in particular, has been forgotten.
The Buffalo Sabres drafted Michigan goalie Erik Portillo in 2019 and since he has two years of eligibility left and 4 years since his draft year, this August the goalie will be able to explore free agency.
The Sabres may not be able to sign the goalie, given the pipeline is full with Eric Comrie, UPL and Devon Levi. Kevyn Adams should at least attempt to get something for this draft pick-and-pick-up assets where they're needed the most or to be used as future trade bait. With the Sabres on the upward swing trending towards contention, it'll be interesting to see what their next steps are with Portillo, whose numbers are an impressive 2.14 GAA and .926 SV%, he will end up rostered somewhere in the bigs.
