Trevor Zegras is fined for slashing Matt Benning in the balls (Video)
The NHL has marketed Trevor Zegras as one of the best young players in the game, so it's likely the league won't be too thrilled with this news. Last night during the Ducks 6-5 victory over the Sharks, Zegras was penalized for slashing.
The slash occurred during the 2nd period of the game and left a sour taste in Benning's mouth. Zegras was given a two minute minor for slashing on the play, but many felt he deserved more. That includes Benning.
Today the NHL and the Department of Player Safety decided that Zegras would be fined for this action.
Anaheim's Trevor Zegras has been fined $1,500, for Slashing San Jose's Matt Benning. While the league determined this to be a slash, it truly was more of a spear and in a very sensitive location. It does appear the league gave Zegras as little or a punishment as possible.
