The Edmonton Oilers and Detroit Red Wings both returned from the all-star break to produce a very feisty affair on Tuesday night. Both teams combined for 32 penalty minutes with a few punches, face washes, and other extracurricular activities after the whistle.
Detroit's Tyler Bertuzzi was part of a melee in the third period that erupted after Moritz Seider retaliated against Evander Kane for a hit, turning around and tripping the Oilers' forward. Bertuzzi laid a high stick check to Kane's face breaking his stick in the process. The end result was a third penalty for the Wings, with Seider, Bertuzzi and Kane in their respective boxes.
Kane got the last laugh on the night icing the game with the empty netter. The Oilers and Wings play again on February 15th, it will be interesting to see if any retribution will be acted on in their next meeting.
