An interesting bottom six option is still available as we reach mid August. 27 year old, forward Tyler Motte spent parts of five seasons with the Vancouver Canucks before being traded to the New York Rangers at the deadline for a fourth round pick.
Motte split last season with Vancouver and New York. While playing for the Canucks he scored seven goals and 15 points in 49 games. After going without a point in nine games with the Rangers to close out the 2021–22 regular season, Motte chipped in a pair of goals in 15 playoff contests as his new team reached the Eastern Conference Final.
Coming off a two-year, $2.45MM contract with the Canucks it seems likely that Motte was looking for a raise on the $1.225MM cap hit he has carried. Whether he lands that raise now, after teams have used up most of their cap space, remains to be seen.
