Wayne Simmonds calls out reporter for making false claim about him
Free agent forward Wayne Simmonds calls out a reporter for making false claim about him.
Earlier on Friday, Josh Clipperton of The Canadian Press shared he was doing an interview with Wayne Simmonds for the Hockey Diversity Alliance and mentioned that the free agent forward was calling time on his playing career.
"I haven't officially announced my retirement, but I'm done. I had a great career. It was the best time I've ever had in my life. Right now, it's family time." Simmonds reportedly said to Clipperton.
Flash forward a few hours and it appears that Simmonds is not hanging up the skates and in quote tweet of Clipperton's post, shared that he is not retired.
"Did not announce my retirement !!!" Simmonds said.
Simmonds, 35, last played in the National Hockey League during the 2022-23 season where he appeared in 18 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs, recording two assists, 49 penalty minutes and was a plus-one.
It'll be interesting to see what comes next for Wayne Simmonds, given that he's not retired, but if he wants to return to the National Hockey League, he'll need to sign a contract before Friday, March 8th in order to be eligible for the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
