Kyle Ivan is back, and Senators fans are hearing him again just as Ottawa opens its playoff series.

The Ottawa Senators and Carolina Hurricanes are set to open the first playoff series on Saturday, and that timing dragged an old side story right back into the spotlight.
A year ago, Ivan put out a playoff hype song after Ottawa locked up its spot.
It didn't land the way a hometown anthem usually does.
The reaction was rough then, and it got even louder after the Senators lost to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Rival fans turned the clip into an easy punchline.
That could have been the end of it.
For most fans, one round of online ridicule is enough to send the microphone into storage.
Not Ivan.
He came back for another run, this time with what was described as an even bigger production tied to Ottawa's latest playoff push.

Kyle Ivan doubles down with a new Senators playoff song after last year’s backlash

That's what makes this story stick.
It's not just that a fan made another playoff song.
It's that he did it after the first one got dragged around the hockey world.
There's a certain playoff stubbornness in that.
The same kind of energy fans love in a fourth-line winger finishing checks on a road trip can show up off the ice too, even if it comes through a viral video instead of a shift change.
The new song is already making the rounds, and the reaction hasn't softened much.
The comments on Ivan's Instagram account were described as far from positive, with fans from around the league piling on again.
Still, there's a reason this keeps getting attention.
Playoff hockey always creates side stories, and this one has a weird kind of staying power because it sits right between cringe, loyalty, and commitment.
For the Senators, none of this changes what happens at puck drop against Carolina.
But around the fan base, it adds another layer to a playoff return that already feels emotional and noisy before the series even gets rolling.
And that may be the real hook here.
Kyle Ivan didn't disappear after becoming part of the chatter last spring.
He doubled down, came back with another anthem, and made sure at least one off-ice Senators storyline was already alive before Game 1.
