For the Boston Bruins, they need some secondary scoring and someone who can play in their top-six forward group, potentially alongside David Pastrnak. Meanwhile for the Carolina Hurricanes, their goaltending situation needs to be dealt with, especially if they want to make a deep run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2025 and beyond.
On Thursday, while on The Jeff Marek Show, Elliotte Friedman mentioned that while the Vancouver Canucks and Montreal Canadiens have interest in Martin Necas, he doesn't believe either team has what the Carolina Hurricanes are looking for, which hasn't been confirmed, but is likely goaltending help.
Marek and Friedman went back and forth regarding the Bruins and Hurricanes and if they could work out a deal, when the latter asked what Boston has what Carolina wants. Marek then brought up goaltender Linus Ullmark, who could waive his no-trade clause and sign an extension with the acquiring team when he becomes eligible on July 1st.
Elliotte Friedman then dropped a bit of a bombshell on the show, mentioning that the Hurricanes and Bruins did talk about a Linus Ullmark deal back in March ahead of the trade deadline.
For the reasons mentioned above by Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek, the Bruins and Hurricanes seem like a perfect match to complete a blockbuster trade in the coming weeks, potentially at the NHL Entry Draft or in early July around the opening of the free agency window.
