For the second straight year, Team Canada was eliminated from the World Junior Championship in the quarter-finals.
However, this year, the disappointment reached another level.
Multiple aspects of the team were criticized by analysts and reporters, but now, a hockey legend in Canada made his thoughts known.
Chris Pronger, who represented Team Canada for four Olympic Games, the most of any Canadian male hockey player, shared his thoughts on the situation in a rant on X.
The Stanley Cup champion and three-time Olympic gold medalist simply asked what the organization should do to get back to its former identity.
In his own words:
Pronger later suggested the idea that the hockey development program should get more money from the official budget:
It's not a secret that Hockey Canada's finances took a hit after the 2018 Team Canada Junior scandal. Many sponsors stopped financing the organization, which could partly explain some of the team's struggles.
This doesn't explain why the team hasn't been able to perform this year.
Head coach Dave Cameron must take a part of the blame. Pronger seems to believe so.
Here's what he replied to a comment on X that stated Cameron couldn't have done anything differently:
Until some changes are made in Team Canada, critics will continue. Fans are eager to see what will be done to avoid another humiliating elimination.
