In a shocking development, a 64-year-old playing a game of hockey sadly died after a puck hit him right in the chest during a game.
Louis Foster, a 64-year-old hockey player, was on the ice Tuesday night at Jacksonville's Community First Igloo rink on Philips Highway
when sudden tragedy struck.
Foster had no known preexisting medical conditions before the incident, his family said.
In the match, Foster was a goalkeeper when he was hit by a puck in the chest very forcefully, as per a JSO report. He lasted in the game for some time despite the blow before deciding to exit the rink.
As Foster was leaving the ice rink, he complained of not feeling well. He headed towards the stands before his condition rapidly got worse. Suddenly, he fell.
Witnesses quickly came to his aid, performing CPR as they waited for emergency personnel to arrive. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue, as well as JSO police officers, quickly responded to the scene.
Foster's relatives attended the game and saw the tragic incident happen. In spite of the attempts of the people who came to his aid, he did not make it. Foster was rushed to the nearby Baptist Medical hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead.
"The victim was unconscious and still wearing his hockey uniform," the report states.
His death is a great loss to those who knew him. May Louis Foster rest in peace, and we offer our sincerest condolences to his entire family and all of his friends.
