Don Cherry still can't get over the fact that the Bruins traded their captain and team legend, Brad Marchand, at the trade deadline a few weeks ago to Florida.
Former NHL head coach turned broadcaster Don Cherry was shocked by Boston's recent moves, where some of their top players like Brad Marchand, Brandon Carlo, and Trent Frederic were traded away from the team.
In his opinion, those moves have taken away their strength and will impact their playoff aspirations.
"That's a big turnover, for sure. I don't understand it. Something funny going on in that whole organization. They're going to miss the playoffs, that's for sure," Don Cherry said. "I don't know why they're doing this. I just don't understand it. They got rid of so many good players, and now look at them."
The team made some huge free agency and trade moves. Marchand was dealt to Florida at the deadline, Carlo was traded to Toronto, and Frederic was traded to Edmonton in a three-way deal.
The Bruins lost key players last summer as well
Jake DeBrusk signed in Vancouver last summer, Charlie Coyle was traded to Colorado, and Linus Ullmark was traded to Ottawa in June.
On his show, Cherry asked why they had gone so aggressively in that direction. His co-host and son, Tim Cherry, agreed, saying that Don had predicted months earlier that Boston was not going to do well. Tim had left that out of a prior show.
The Bruins are in a vulnerable position, having lost 14 of their last 17 games. They have only 10 games remaining and are six points behind the Montreal Canadiens for the East's last wild-card spot.
Their current six-game losing streak includes a demoralizing defeat to the league's worst team, the San Jose Sharks.
