NHL Expansion has been a popular topic this offseason with the NHL officially moving the Arizona Coyotes to Salt Lake City, becoming the Utah Hockey Club. High-profile agent Allen Walsh revealed on his podcast Agent Provocateur that the NHL will eventually add two more teams to the league.
Hockey fans in Quebec City have been lobbying for the NHL to return for a very long time. The province of Quebec housed the Nordiques from 1972 until 1995 when the franchise relocated to Colorado because of financial struggles.
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman appears only lukewarm to the idea of an NHL franchise returning to Quebec with his preference being the United States for any new potential franchise.
Allan Walsh revealed that Houston and Atlanta are the front runners to get the NHL to 34 teams.
It will be an exorbitant price to pay for any new team that enters the league, with the likely location being somewhere in the USA.
It's no surprise the NHL would be looking at expansion, but this the first time an expansion is guaranteed.
