The Toronto Maple Leafs have had a history of having teams around the National Hockey League wanting to take things from them depending on who their general manager is. All you have to do is go back to last year when if a Leafs player was put on waivers he was claimed 95% of the time. That's changed with the new regime this year, but it has seemed that making trades have been harder than some people anticipated.
Today, Sportsnet insider Eric Francis was on the Fan 590 and claimed teams are afraid to deal with the Maple Leafs in the trade market, obviously focusing on the Calgary Flames and the ties between the two organizations; take a look.
Francis says that not only do the Flames not want to deal with the Leafs in regards to a Tanev deal or otherwise, but no one wants to be part of the trade that potentially helps Toronto win their next cup. Add in the fact the Flames general manager Craig Conroy was mentored' by Brad Treliving and there's absolutely no desire to help any aspect because of that either.
