After a decade of coaching the University of North Dakota, head coach Brad Berry will not return for an 11th season behind the bench in a stunning leadership change.

Major news out of the world of Division 1 collegiate hockey has been announced. The University of North Dakota will not be bringing back longtime head coach Brad Berry after 10 years behind the bench.
The announcement was made by Director of Athletics Bill Chaves, who released the following statement on the stunning leadership change:
Coach Berry has had a tremendous decade run at his alma mater. Not many coaches win a national title and he's one of a very few. His time will be cherished, but today was the right time to move in a new direction for UND hockey.

Following their defeat at the hands of Western Michigan University on Friday, Berry expressed his pride in how his players competed despite the disappointing loss.
We all get measured at North Dakota on the championships, and we should. That's what we sign up for. But I'll tell you what, these guys poured their hearts out with everything they did. I couldn't be more proud.

Among the achievements that Berry had in his time as UND coach was a national championship in 2015-16, which was his 1st year on the job as head coach. To date, he remains the only coach in NCAA Division 1 history to win a championship in his inaugural year.
He accumulated a total record of 227-119-35 (.642 win percentage), the 4th-most wins in program history by any coach.
He also led the program to 5 Penrose Cup wins while also winning a Frozen Faceoff crown with 5 NCAA Tournament appearances. His accomplishments also earned him the Herb Brooks Coach of the Year award on 4 separate occasions; he was also named the national coach of the year in 2020.
