Yesterday it was announced that Maple Leafs defenseman, Morgan Rielly, has been suspended for five games for his cross-check on Ridley Greig. The league made the following announcement on their official X account.
«Morgan Rielly has been suspended five games by @NHLPlayerSafety for his cross-check on
Ridly Greig.
The @NHLPA has 48 hours to appeal the decision on Rielly's behalf to NHL commissioner Gary Bettman ... and I'd expect them to appeal.»
There may be a reason it's only five games and not six, though. By issuing a 5 game suspension the Department of Player Safety prevents Morgan Rielly from eventually appealing this suspension to an independent arbitrator.
The DoPS has faced a lot of criticism, however, the Department looks even worse after news surfaced that the punishment had been leaked to the media before it was even received by the Maple Leafs.
«Dreger just implied on the pre-game that the DOPS skipped protocol and leaked the ruling out before the Leafs and Rielly even knew
That seems fantastic»
Not only can they not make things make sense, they forgot how to communicate properly as well. How do you leak it first and not even tell the player and/or team?
Parros has turned this department into a joke and they should be ashamed of themselves.
