If you were paying attention, this past Saturday night to the game featuring the Toronto Maple Leafs versus the Ottawa Senators in Canada's nation's capital, you would have witnessed what could only be described as a «what on earth just happened?» moment with the clock winding down.
Ridley Greig rushed into the Maple Leafs zone to deposit the puck into the open cage as Leafs defenseman Morgan Reilly and the rest of his linemates chased after him. As Greig approached the net, he decided to take a slap shot, which in turn rubbed Reilly the wrong way. As Greig celebrated, it appeared as if Reilly cross-checked his opponent a little too high, thus garnering a large response from the other players on the ice and subsequently the Department of Player Safety, who is determining his fate in the form of a suspension.
Reilly was initially offered an in-person hearing, but because of inclement weather near the NHL head office, he will discuss his actions on the phone.
