After moving on from former general manager Brad Treliving It became clear that there were problems within the Calgary Flames locker room. The team was surrounded by rumors of players looking for fresh starts all summer long. Fast forward 6 months and the Flames have already traded. Elias Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov.
Now it appears another defender is on his way out the door. According to multiple reports. Noah Hanifin turned down $49 million from the team and is now destined to be traded ahead of the trade deadline. Earlier this year reports stated that a deal was imminent between the two parties, but it immediately fell apart due to the team struggles
Reports have now surfaced that Hanifin has actually informed the Flames of his preferred destination. While Hanifin currently holds an 8-team no trade list, he does have the ability to negatively impact his return by refusing to discuss an extension with a new name.
Flames General Manager Craig Conroy has made it clear that he's not interested in being pushed around by other General Managers or by players so it will be interesting to see how he manages this situation. It's very possible the Flames could see themselves acquire another first round pick and a top prospect if they manage the Hanifin situation correctly.
