On Friday in the Ontario Hockey League, the London Knights faced off against the Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds in a game that would get rather heated after Knights forward Sawyer Boulton was ejected from the game for jumping, crosschecking and punching a Greyhounds player. Boulton was given three penalties on the play, 2 minutes for instigating, 5 for fighting and a game misconduct for fighting in the last 5 minutes of the game.
It appears Boulton got tripped near the slot, setting him off, but that's a play that you can't make, even if you're losing 8-2. The crosscheck was one thing, but jumping an unsuspecting player and not giving him a chance to defend himself is certainly something you cannot do, especially in junior.
To top it off, Boulton is a repeat offender which is no doubt part of the reason the punishment was so harsh. These are the kind of plays that no longer belong in hockey. Nice to see such a harsh punishment handed out.
