Center Robert Thomas and the St. Louis Blues have been the absolute epicenter of NHL trade deadline chaos this week.

While negotiations between the Blues and the Buffalo Sabres recently hit a massive roadblock, the actual proposed return package has finally been revealed to the hockey world.
According to an eye-opening report from PuckEmpire, via insider @J_Swish24, Buffalo put an absolute blockbuster offer on the table to acquire the premier 26-year-old pivot.
The alleged package heading back to St. Louis included former first-overall pick Owen Power, top center prospect Konsta Helenius, and potentially dynamic young forward Jack Quinn.

Thomas WOULD be willing to waive his no-trade clause to go to Buffalo.
That is an astronomical haul of premium, cost-controlled talent. The Sabres front office is clearly swinging for the fences to end Buffalo's agonizing 14-year playoff drought and secure an elite offensive engine.

Thomas Willing to Waive No-Trade Clause

Perhaps the most significant detail to emerge from this leak is regarding Thomas himself. The report confirmed that the star center would be willing to waive his full no-trade clause to join the Sabres.
Over his NHL career, Thomas has evolved into one of the most reliable playmakers in the NHL. The fact that he views Buffalo as a highly desirable destination is a massive testament to the promising young core currently assembled in upstate New York.
Parting with a towering franchise defenseman like Power and a blue-chip prospect like Helenius is incredibly painful. Yet, acquiring a bona fide number-one center signed through 2031 at an $8.125 million cap hit requires an uncomfortable, franchise-altering sacrifice.
While this specific transaction currently appears to be stalled as the two sides haggle over the final pieces, the sheer magnitude of the proposed assets proves St. Louis is firmly demanding a king's ransom.
Expect the rumor mill to continue churning violently until Friday afternoon. If Buffalo ultimately refuses to surrender Power, another desperate contender might suddenly step up to meet the Blues' sky-high asking price.
