Two former QMJHL players found guilty and sentenced to prison time
Two former players with the QMJHL's Victoriaville Tigres, Nicolas Daigle and Massimo Siciliano, will spend time in prison after being sentenced by a judge in Quebec
Two players who were teammates with the Victoriaville Tigres of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League have be sentenced to jail time by a Judge in Quebec after being found guilty of s----l assault.
Nicolas Daigle and Massimo Siciliano were charged in connection with an incident involving a teenaged girl in a hotel room in 2021. The entire team was celebrating winning the QMJHL championship. Both were found guilty in 2023 of assault, while Daigle was also found guilty of recording the assault and making it available to others. His sentence is two months longer than Siciliano's as a result.
"A Quebec judge gave Nicolas Daigle a 32-month jail sentence this afternoon. Massimo Siciliano was sentenced to 30 months.
The Crown had requested 36 months for Siciliano and between 39 and 42 months for Daigle. (An offender sentenced to two years or more usually serves the sentence in a federal penitentiary.) The defence sought community sentences and probation."
According to LeSoleil.com, the defence has already said it will appeal the setences. The prosecutor, on the other hand, praised the judge's decision, calling it a message to the hockey community.
"To all sports associations, especially hockey associations, there is a very strong message. We have two individuals who played for the major junior league, a prestigious league, who are headed to prison today,"
Five former members of the NHL are currently facing similar charges stemming from an incident that allegedly took place during a celebration of Team Canada's gold medal at the 2018 World Junior Championship. All five have vowed to fight the charges.
