Canadiens draft pick will never make the NHL according to current GM
Third round Montreal Canadiens draft pick Dmitri Kostenko has been absolutely ripped apart by his current coach, who says Kostenko will never make it to the NHL
He definitely told us how he really feels without holding anything back. The GM of a VHL team in Russia (that country's equivalent of the AHL) has done an interview to answer questions about a recent Montreal Canadiens draft pick, and it's very clear the GM does not think highly of him at all.
Defenceman Dmitri Kostenko, who was drafted third round, 87th overall) by the Habs in 2021 has yet to play in North American. Sergei Gusev, who is th General Manager of the team in Russia that Kostenko plays for, says it's very doubtful he ever will.
"He will never make it to the NHL.
He doesn't want to learn, he just wants to do his own thing. You tell him to pass the puck across the ice and he will give the puck to the opponent anyways."
Gusev was far from done there, saying Kostenko tends to sulk when he doesn't get time on the powerplay. Gusev added he never would have gotten the PP minutes if anyone else had been available.
"On top of it, if you don't put him on the power play he pouts. He won't saying anything but you can see it in his body language, he drives me crazy, seriously.
I couldn't bench him, but if I could, I would have done it every game."
Kostenko split last season between Voskresensk Khimik and Khanty-Mansiysk Yugra of the VHL. In 42 games, the 21 year old put up 11 goals and 25 points. It's certainly not uncommon for a third-round pick never to play in the NHL. It is uncommon, however, for a GM to rip apart a player on their team in such fashion.
