Vancouver Canucks defender could face suspension
Last night the Vancouver Canucks and Edmonton Oilers faced off in a pivotal game 3 matchup. The two teams played right up until the final whistle, with the Canucks sneaking out a 4-3 victory to take a 2-1 series lead. However, it's what happened after the final whistle that could have a long reach impact on the series.
After the final whistle Connor McDavid approaches Canucks' defender Carson Soucy and delivers a hard two hand slash to the leg. Not being one to back down, Soucy immediately engaged. Unfortunately for McDavid, veteran defender Nikita Zadorov also saw the slash.
Zadorov immediately comes to his defense partners aid and delivers a cross check to the back of McDavid sending him to the ice. As McDavid falls, Soucy delivers a shot of his own. Due to Zadorov's response, Soucy's cross check lands directly to the face of McDavid, an unintended landing spot.
Possible suspension?
On the play officials awarded only Soucy a two minute penalty for cross checking. It will be interesting to see if the NHL Department of Player Safety is interested in issuing a punishment or if George Parros has already checked out early for the summer.
