Boston Bruins upset after controversial video review call negates goal

In last night's high-flying game, six between the Bruins and Panthers, a one-goal lead was especially valuable with both teams trading goals. Unfortunately for the Bruins, one of their tallies was taken off the board following a controversial call of a hand pass prior to the goal.

The goal would've given the Bruins the lead in the second period after mounting a deficit created by the Panthers earlier in the game. However, almost ten seconds prior to the goal, a stoppage in play was missed after the Bruins committed a hand pass.

It's always controversial when a goal is disallowed to such trivial rules, but the call made by the review team is correct. It reminds fans of the recent controversial high stick stoppage review that immediately preceded the Trevor Moore of the Kings' overtime winner against the Oilers.

The league's directive in this situation seems to be to favour the goal call as opposed to overturning, in the interest of generating more action. However, when the review footage conclusively finds evidence of something missed like a hand pass, the right call is to overturn the goal.
