During the NHL's draft week, the Philadelphia Flyers tried to trade defenceman Tony DeAngelo back to the Carolina Hurricanes, but it caught a snag due to a ruling in the CBA.

The ruling in the CBA says that a team is not allowed to re-acquire a player within 12 months of being traded, especially in a deal with retained salary. The Hurricanes traded DeAngelo to Philadelphia on July 8th of 2022 and he subsequently signed a two-year, $10 million contract.

On July 9th, which is tomorrow, the trade can become official and it's finally known what the Flyers will receive in return for retaining 50% of DeAngelo's cap hit for the 2023-24 season.

The Philadelphia Flyers are set to acquire University of Denver centerman Massimo Rizzo. Rizzo, 22, has spent the last two seasons with the University of Denver and was a seventh round pick of the Hurricanes in 2019.

In 38 games this past season, the Burnaby, British Columbia native had 46 points (17 goals, 29 assists), 14 penalty minutes and was a plus-24.
