Earlier today, the Minnesota Wild completed a trade with the San Jose Sharks, with the Wild sending a formerly high ranked prospect, Calen Addison, in exchange for forward Adam Raska and a fifth round draft pick. Now the Wild have parlayed that deal into acquiring another more experienced defenceman, Zach Bogosian from the Tampa Bay Lightning.
At the time of writing, the return Minnesota is sending Tampa for Bogosian is unknown, but unlikely to be a significant price. The move clearly shows Minnesota's willingness to compete for a playoff spot with a tough, experienced defenceman in Bogosian, while paying a low cost as the team deals with salary issues.
Bogosian, now 33 years old, will join the Wild as the sixth team of his career. He spent the last two seasons with Tampa Bay, and previously won the cup with them in 2019-20 season. He'll never put up much in points, only recording five through 46 games last regular season, but Bogosian brings immense value as a physical defenceman in the playoffs. Bogosian has only this year remaining on his current contract, worth $850K annually.
