Maple Leafs & Flames linked in trade rumours to massive deal

It hasn't been a very good start to the 2023-24 season for the Calgary Flames as they currently sit sixth in the Pacific Division with a record of 4-7-1.

Due to their poor start, the Flames have halted contract negotiations on pending unrestricted free agents including players such as Noah Hanifin and Elias Lindholm.

But another player on the Flames' roster is beginning to draw interest on the trade market, that being defenceman Nikita Zadorov.

Recently, Zadorov was linked to the Toronto Maple Leafs by Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman and it looks like both teams could be talking about a bigger deal that would see them swap goaltenders as well.

According to reports, a potential trade has been floating around that would see the following happen:

To Toronto: Nikita Zadorov, Jacob Markstrom.

To Calgary: T.J. Brodie, Ilya Samsonov and a prospect, potentially Nick Robertson.

As @FriedgeHNIC reported. Leafs are in on Zadorov. We are hearing that it's bigger. Markstrom, Zadorov for Brodie Samsonov and a prospect (Robertson). There are other moving parts stay tuned. #LeafsForever #flames

Now, it's safe to say that everyone should take this rumour with a grain of salt as it hasn't been reported by any major outlet or notable insider yet, but it's certainly something to keep and eye on as both the Flames and Maple Leafs are looking to turn things around quickly.

The Maple Leafs are probably unlikely to move on from Nick Robertson just yet and Ilya Samsonov will be given a chance to turn things around after a very rough start to the 2023-24 campaign.
