Over the summer it has been reported that the Vancouver Canucks have been working hard to find a new home for Tyler Myers. It was assumed that a deal would be completed after the Canucks' paid Myers' bonus on September 15th, but nothing has come to fruition. While it was rumored that a deal was at one time close, it appears that is no longer the case.
According to NHL Insider Frank Seravalli it appears that at one time a deal nearly came together between Vancouver and San Jose. The deal would have seen Myers to San Jose, while returning forward Kevin Labanc to the Canucks.
Both Labanc and Myers are in the final years of their contract, but it appears that the Canucks felt they'd likely receive a much better return for Myers at the trade deadline. If the Canucks are to fall out of playoff contention it is likely that they could unload and enter a full rebuild for next season, with Myers being a key piece of their deadline.
