The Pittsburgh Penguins, clearly sellers at this year's deadline as they sit near the bottom of the standings, have made a trade with the Washington Capitals that will see Anthony Beauvillier shipped over to a division rival, reported by Elliotte Friedman.
Beauvillier has played in 63 games with the Penguins this season, having scored 13 goals and added seven assists, for a grand total of 20 points.
The Capitals have sent a 2nd round pick in 2025 back to the Penguins in exchange for Beauvillier.
In his career, Beauvillier has played in 613 games, scoring 129 goals and 137 assists, for a total of 266 points.
The veteran forward is set to become a free agent this summer when his one-year, $1,250,000 contract comes to an end. It made sense for him to be sent to a contending team as a rental player.
After a disappointing elimination from last year's playoffs in the first round at the hands of the New York Rangers, Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals will look to do a lot more damage this time around.
The situation around the Washington Capitals is very different this season. They are atop the Eastern Conference, whereas last season they barely squeaked into the playoffs as the 8th seed.
Everyone will be keeping an eye out on both the Penguins and the Capitals going forward today, as Kyle Dubas clearly is in full seller mode in Pittsburgh, whereas the Capitals are looking to continue bolstering their roster.
