The Ottawa Senators are banking on a change of scenery to spark Warren Foegele after finalizing a deal with the Los Angeles Kings and head coach Travis Green.

The move brings a much-needed depth piece to the nation's capital. Ottawa is sending a draft pick to Los Angeles as the primary return for the veteran winger.
In a move to balance out the future assets, the two clubs also agreed to a secondary pick swap. The Kings walk away with two total picks while the Senators secure Foegele and a single selection.
For Foegele, this is a chance to reset a frustrating 2025-26 campaign. After a career-high 46 points last season, he has struggled to find any rhythm in California this year.
Solid execution on the forecheck has always been his calling card. Green likely views him as a versatile tool to stabilize the middle-six and provide some heavy lifting on the penalty kill.
The winger carries a $3.5 million cap hit through next season. It is a manageable number for a player who recently proved he can handle top-nine minutes effectively.
Holding a -6 rating through 47 games this season, Foegele was clearly the odd man out in a crowded Kings forward group. The arrival of Artemi Panarin in LA essentially sealed his fate.

A New Chapter in Ottawa

The Senators' transition game should benefit from Foegele's north-south style. He isn't a flashy playmaker, but he creates room for others by driving the net and winning puck battles.
Ottawa has hovered around the .500 mark recently and needed a veteran presence to settle the locker room. Foegele brings exactly that kind of professional pedigree to the fold.
With only nine points on the board this season, the offensive output has been invisible. But a fresh start in the Atlantic Division might be the spark he needs to find his scoring touch.
The Senators are paying a fair price for a player with 218 career points. If he finds his form, this lowkey trade could look like a steal by the time the postseason arrives.
So far, the trade deadline has been off to a torrid start, and this is yet another example of just how much action there has been so far.
