Late Thursday night, news came across that the Pittsburgh Penguins had finally come to an agreement to trade Jake Guentzel. It had become clear that the team and player were far apart on a contract extension and the Penguins couldn't afford to lose him for nothing. This marked the first step in what is expected to be a lengthy rebuild.
The trade sent Guentzel to a divisional rival in the Carolina Hurricanes. Overall fans were pretty dissatisfied with the return as Kyle Dubas was unable to even secure a guaranteed first round pick in the deal. But one fan in particular took his displeasure even further and called into a local radio station.
The fan in question was upset that the kit Penguins traded an american-born player in exchange for a Canadian and some European players. Ironically, all of the Penguins best players are from either Canada or Europe, but that didn't stop this fan.
This deal has not endeared new general manager, Kyle Dubas to his new fan base. Unfortunately for him, he is likely to have to make more tough decisions before things begin to get easier.
