Evgeny Kuzntesov traded by the Washington Capitals
The Carolina Hurricanes have been a top team in the Eastern Conference for a number of years now but have never been able to fully put it together in the playoffs, failing to make it past the second round since winning the franchise's first Stanley Cup in 2006.
General Manager Don Waddell landed the biggest trade chip of the deadline last night by acquiring Jake Guentzel and they aren't done hunting for another star with just under $6M in cap space remaining.
The Hurricanes have acquired Washington Capitals forward Evgeni Kuznetsov from Carolina in exchange for a Hurricanes for a 2025 third-round pick. Washing is retaining 50% of on Kuznetsov (one more year next season at a $7.8 M AAV)
In 43 games this year before entering the Players Assistances Program, Kuzntesov scored 6 goals and added 11 assists. Kuzntesov has one more year remaining on his contract paying him $7,800,000 but this will be split between both teams now.
Adding two perianal scorers to an already deep Hurricanes squad makes them a real contender in the East.
