Ontario is one of the best places in the world for hockey, and in 2026-27, Hamilton will be the home of the New York Islanders' AHL affiliate.
If there is one city that has been begging for a hockey team, it has been Hamilton. They lost the Hamilton Bulldogs and have been yearning for a new team ever since.
Just last year, Frank Seravalli reported that their prayers were about to be answered, as the Bridgeport Islanders were looking to move.
The Islanders are the AHL farm team for the New York Islanders, and have been looking to leave the area for a while due to financial constraints.
Hamilton would be the perfect place to go. It is right outside of Toronto, and remains a hotbed for hockey, which was considered for an NHL franchise.
Bridgeport Islanders to move to Hamilton
Since Seravalli's initial report, there had been very few updates on the Hamilton situation and whether or not the Bridgeport Islanders were really moving.
However, Seravalli was recently asked about the ordeal, and it was here that he confirmed the news. Hamilton is, indeed, getting a team in time for the 2026-27 season.
This is going to be huge for the city of Hamilton, and there is no doubt that fans can appreciate everything that is happening right now.
An AHL team is no joke. The Bulldogs were an institution when the Montreal Canadiens were affiliated with them.
Whether or not the new team will be called the Bulldogs is something that still very much remains to be seen right now.
However, you cannot deny the fact that the area is going to see a huge boon in commerce with a hockey team coming to the area.
