Former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner was back at the Scotiabank Arena on Friday, and as you can imagine, the reception was a mixed bag.
Mitch Marner was back in Toronto on Friday for the very first time since leaving the team in the Summer for the Las Vegas Golden Knights.
It was a huge day for the Maple Leafs' fanbase, and the reception at the Scotiabank Arena was certainly mixed throughout the evening.
While Marner was showered in boos, he was also adorned with a standing ovation that came following a special video played on the big screen.
That said, there is one moment that is currently going viral, and for very good reason.
Maple Leafs fan labels Mitch Marner a "sellout"
While walking out onto the ice, Golden Knights star Keegan Kolesar ripped a Maple Leafs jersey out of a fans' hands, which seemed like a malicious thing to do.
However, it eventually became clear that he was well within his rights to do this, especially when you consider what kind of jersey the fan was holding.
As you can see from an alternate angle, the jersey said "sellout" on it, which just goes to show that Leafs fans are upset with Marner these days.
Kolesar didn't want his teammate to see the jersey, and a meme was born. Whether or not this was the right move, is up for debate.
Ultimately, the Golden Knights got the last laugh, as the final score was 6-3, and the Leafs were never really in it.
The Leafs need to start getting some wins here, and these losses to the Golden Knights will weigh heavily on the team this season.
