Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson hasn't been getting very many opportunities at the Winter Olympics, which has led to some questions.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson is easily one of the best defensemen on the Toronto Maple Leafs this season. With that knowledge, it should be no surprise that he was invited to play for Team Sweden.
Unfortunately, the defenseman was hit with some disrespect, as he was not on the ice at all during the team's 5-1 win against Italy on Wednesday.
This morning, Sweden was on the ice against their rivals, Finland. It was an important game for both teams, especially with Slovakia having a nice start to the tournament.
Unfortunately, for Sweden, it led to a bad loss in which the Finns took the game by a score of 4-1. Now, Sweden needs to beat Slovakia.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson finally speaks out
Thankfully, for OEL, he actually got some playing time in this one. It was nice to see, especially since it confirms the defenseman didn't make the trip for nothing.
According to Mark Masters, OEL spoke to the media after the game, and it was here that he addressed being able to get into Sweden's game.
I'm here to support my team & do whatever they need me to do. It was nice to get in & get a few shifts ... It's not a big deal
It is good to see that OEL is just as much of a team guy with his country as he is with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
For Sweden, this has not been a particularly hot start to the season, and there is no denying that some fans are a bit worried about whether or not they will have a shot at a medal.
If one thing is for certain, it is that the Americans and the Canadians remain the favorites in this one.
