Toronto Maple Leafs forward Bobby McMann is currently embroiled in numerous NHL trade deadline rumors, but there is another avenue for the Maple Leafs to explore.
With 32 points in 56 games this season, Bobby McMann is someone who the Toronto Maple Leafs are very excited to have on their team.
There is a sense around the league that the Leafs could even get themselves a first-round pick for the forward, which is a trade the Leafs would have to make.
They cannot make a move until February 23rd, when the players have returned from the Olympic Games, which are taking place in Milan.
What's next for Bobby McMann?
According to Elliotte Friedman, the Leafs can still make a move involving McMann, and it is certainly putting general manager Brad Treliving into an ultimatum situation.
Contract extensions can still be signed. This means McMann might just communicate with the Leafs and demand, sign me or trade me.
There's a movement freeze until the 23rd, but one thing I was reminded of today is you can still sign extensions, and teams are gonna want to know by the time that freeze is up, are guys extending with us or are they going elsewhere
It is an interesting situation for the Maple Leafs, albeit one that Treliving had to have known was coming all this time.
Overall, the Maple Leafs are going to be looking to retool going into the offseason, and for some fans, that is a terrifying thought.
Ultimately, Treliving is in a tough spot, and the McMann situation is one that has left the general manager looking for every possible avenue to come out on top.
