Brad Marchand Breaks Silence and Speaks for the First Time as a Florida Panther
Former Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand broke his silence for the first time since being traded to the Florida Panthers in a new press conference.
A few days after the Boston Bruins shockingly traded their captain, Brad Marchand, to the Florida Panthers for a draft pick, the dust has slowly started to settle.
Today, Marchand held a press conference, offering comments about his trade to the Panthers for the first time.
As you can guess, Marchand came in with his usual sense of humor, breaking the ice with a few jokes:
Marchand was asked to share how he reacted to the news of being traded to the Panthers and stated that he was disappointed and sad when he first heard the news. Now, he feels grateful and "rejuvenated" to join the Panthers, a very competitive team.
He also talked about how he's glad hockey players don't take things personally and how he'll get along with his new teammates, such as Niko Mikkola:
Ahead of the interview, Marchand published a message to Bruins fans in the Boston Globe, where he expressed his gratitude toward Boston:
"To Boston,
Thank you for welcoming me into this great city when I was just a young Canadian kid looking to break into the best league in the world. You allowed me to achieve my dream of playing in the National Hockey League and winning the Stanley Cup.
For this, I am forever grateful. You also embraced me from day one and immediately brought me into your family. Since that time, I have become a husband and a father to a beautiful family. My family is your family: We are Bostonians now and forever.
Representing this city as captain of the Boston Bruins was the greatest honor of my life, and it was a privilege to wear the Spoked B over the past 16 years. Boston will always be a part of me, and it will always be a part of my family.
There are far too many people I want to thank to be able to include in this short note, but just know how grateful I am for the time I spent in Boston playing for the Bruins.
Thank you."
Marchand, still dealing with an injury, isn't expected to make his debut with the Panthers soon, as he remains on a week-to-week status.
