Boston Bruins president Cam Neely has sent a message to his struggling team as they finish the year following several high profile trades at the Deadline.
The Boston Bruins
made several moves at the Trade Deadline earlier in the month, most notably by trading captain
Brad Marchand to the divisional foe Florida Panthers.
There isn't really too much I can say about liking during the season right now. It's just really about how we finish and seeing what guys may want to step up and show us that they're NHL players.
Neely acknowledged the difficulty of having to trade so many high profile names, noting that it wasn't something he'd had to do in his tenure as Bruins president.
It was difficult. It was something we hadn't had to do since I've been president. So normally we're adding, not subtracting, so it was a little bit more challenging. Those guys have been around for quite some time and they're really good people.
In all likelihood, the Bruins are going to miss the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2014-15 and could be in the early phases of what may be a difficult rebuilding process.
With 7 straight losses, things won't get any easier for them as they face a desperate Red Wings team tomorrow night in Detroit, who still have a mathematical shot at the postseason.
