With the situation between Boston Bruins RFA goaltender Jeremy Swayman and the organization reaching a stalemate and absolutely no end in sight it appears only one solution may be possible to end this and it's going to rub many people the wrong way.
According to NHL Insider Eliotte Friedman and co-host of the 32 Thoughts podcast the twenty-five-year-old goaltender is considering requesting a trade from the only team he's ever known. While that may be a good move for him, it begs the question as to whether the Bruins got rid of the wrong goaltender by shipping Linus Ullmark to Ottawa earlier this summer.
In hindsight, keeping Swayman was the right choice, but obviously, it's come at a cost. One in which the Bruins feel they can't or don't want to pay any more than they reportedly offered. Whether Swayman himself feels as if he should be compensated amongst the upper echelon of goaltenders, or agree to a deal that's not necessarily team-friendly, but something that pays him handsomely and can help the Bruins succeed moving forward is important. But if you're at an impasse that there is no coming back from. Sometimes something has got to give.
Many teams in the league would love to have Swayman as their starting goaltender, obviously including the Bruins, but who could benefit from him most and offer an appropriate deal to make it make sense for both parties?
Amongst the teams that could interested from having Swayman between the pipes and get the most out of him include the Chicago Blackhawks, Montreal Canadiens, Colorado Avalanche and Seatle Kraken, but which of those four has the appropriate capital to swing a deal? But in the event a trade was facilitated to make everyone happy, one more question needs to be answered as well. At the end of the day, will Jeremy Sweayman be happy with the outcome?
It may be only a matter of time before we know the answer. Until then, we wait.
