The Buffalo Sabres announced on Wednesday that they've agreed to terms on a one-year contract for the 2023-24 season worth $2.5 million with captain Kyle Okposo.

At the conclusion of the team's season, which they finished one point back of the Florida Panthers for the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference, Sabres General Manager Kevyn Adams said that he hoped the team would be able to bring him back for another year and had nothing but good things to say about the long-time NHL forward.

"I can't say enough good things about him as a person, what he's done in the locker room, the way he carries the message from Donny (Granato) and the coaching staff through to the team, his selflessness, to be able to mentor and bring along players," Adams said.

"I see it over and over again, day after day, players are down, whatever's going on in their life, they're talking to him. And I just think it's we're lucky to have him."

Okposo, 35, has spent the last seven years with the Buffalo Sabres after signing with them as a free agent on July 1st, 2016, following nine seasons with the New York Islanders. Ahead of his seventh season with Buffalo, the Sabres named him captain, replacing Jack Eichel.

In 75 games this past season, the St. Paul (Minnesota) native put up 28 points (11 goals, 17 assists), 34 penalty minutes and was a minus-seven.
