Jamie Benn gives an absolutely embarrassing explanation of why he was ejected last night
Less than 2 minutes into last night's game between the Dallas Stars and Vegas Golden Knights, Stars' captain Jamie Benn was ejected. The ejection occurred after Benn intentionally stood over Mark Stone and delivered a cross check to his head. On the play Benn was given a 5 minute major and a game misconduct.
After refusing to speak after last night's game, Benn decided to speak today about the incident. However, Benn's recollection of the events seem to be pretty far from the truth. When asked about the incident, Benn gave the following explanation.Jamie Benn just spoke to the media. Said he wished he wouldn't have fallen on Stone and used his stick «as a landing point.»
That's not how that play looked to me
Also said he has not spoken with Stone.

For anyone who has watched the clip, it's clear that is far from what happened. With one fan even posting a still of Benn standing upright over Stone before the cross check.
The NHL Department of Player Safety has already announced that Benn will have a hearing today, so will see if George Parros believes Benn's explanation.
Update: Full quote
The game happens fast, emotions are high. Obviously I would have liked to not fall on him and use my stick as a landing point.
