The National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced on Saturday that Buffalo Sabres defenceman Connor Clifton has been suspended for two games.

The suspension comes less than 24 hours after Clifton was ejected from Friday's game against New Jersey for an illegal check to the head of Devils captain Nico Hischier.

The incident occurred during the first period of Friday's game. Connor Clifton was lining up Hischier, who was unaware of the Sabres defenceman being near him,for a hit, when he goes right through the New Jersey captain with his shoulder.

Clifton will miss Sunday's game against the Colorado Avalanche and Wednesday's game against the Philadelphia Flyers. He'll be eligible to return to Buffalo's lineup on Friday, November 3rd against Philadelphia.
