Heading into Tuesday, there were a handful of prominent restricted free agents that remained unsigned and one of those was Buffalo Sabres forward Peyton Krebs.
The former first-round pick of the Vegas Golden Knights saw a slight dip in production during the 2023-24 season, his third as a member of the Sabres organization, but the club is hopeful he'll grow into a legit top-six option for them down the road.
On Tuesday, the Buffalo Sabres and Peyton Krebs finally agreed to terms on a contract after two and a half months unsigned and it's safe to say that this is a deal that shouldn't have taken 78 days to sign.
According to TSN's Darren Dreger the Sabres have signed Peyton Krebs to a two-year contract worth $1.45 million per season.
Krebs, 23, appeared in 80 games for the Sabres last season where he registered 17 points (four goals, 13 assists), 67 penalty minutes and was a minus-two.
On the bright side for the Sabres, this could look like a steal of a signing if Peyton Krebs is able to take his game to the next level and become a 40 to 50 point player this season, but it's still crazy that it took until training camp to get him signed to such a miniscule contract.
With the longest streak of missing the playoffs in the NHL mismanagement like this will continue to be puzzling. It is expected the Sabres miss the playoffs once again this year and at that point you have to expect that management will once again be placed underneath the microscope.
