Alexander Ovechkin, one of, if not the greatest goal scorer hockey has ever seen, turned 39 on Tuesday just weeks before he enters his 20th season in the National Hockey League.
To celebrate Ovechkin's birthday, the Washington Capitals used this as the perfect opportunity to announce that they're bringing back a uniform from not that long ago that the fans loved.
In the video posted to social media, the Capitals told Ovechkin that there was a gift waiting for him in his locker room stall. Ovechkin goes over and sits down while opening the box, which contains a black 'Screaming Eagle' uniform that the Capitals are bringing back for their 50th anniversary. The Capitals wore a black version of their 'Screaming Eagle' uniform during the 2022-23 season as part of the Reverse Retro jersey program with the NHL and adidas.
After the video was posted, the Capitals announced their plans for the 'Screaming Eagle' jerseys this season, saying they'll be wearing them a total of six times throughout their 50th anniversary campaign.
- November 6th vs Nashville.- November 29th vs New York Islanders.- December 31st vs Boston.- January 18th vs Pittsburgh.- February 1st vs Winnipeg.- April 13th vs Columbus.
Washington Capitals fans have been asking for the return of the 'Screaming Eagle' uniform for a while now, with some wanting the team to go as far as making them their permanent uniforms, rather than just an alternate.
