Andrew Mangiapane ejected for dangerous cross-check on Jared McCann
The Calgary Flames' season has not gone how many people had expected after a poor start. Coming into Saturday, the Flames had a 2-7-1 record but needed to face the Seattle Kraken on Hockey Night in Canada as they look to turn things around quickly.
As Saturday's game got underway, things went from bad to worse for the Calgary Flames following an incident involving forward Andrew Mangiapane.
Nearly half-way through the opening frame, Mangiapane went to take a shot on the Kraken net, but it was blocked by Jared McCann. As the puck was under McCann, Mangiapane initially goes to poke at the puck before cross-checking the Kraken forward in the back of the neck.
Mangiapane was handed a five-minute major for cross-checking, as well as a match penalty on the play and was ejected for the remainder of the night.
There's no doubt that the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety will be taking a look at this incident and that Mangiapane will be summoned for a hearing.
