Another Flames defenceman has also been drawing plenty of interest on the trade market, that being Chris Tanev, who's set to become an unrestricted free agent in July 2024.
On his most recent 32 Thoughts podcast, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman says that he believes the Toronto Maple Leafs are one of the teams that are still in the mix to acquire Tanev, but that he's also heard from his sources that the Calgary Flames are trying to keep him.
Tanev, 33, has been with the Calgary Flames for the last four seasons after joining them as a free agent in October 2020. So far this season, the Toronto native has seven points (one goal, six assists), four penalty minutes and is a plus-five.
For the Calgary Flames, it's understandable as to why they want to keep Chris Tanev as he is a valuable piece to their defensive core and a leader in their locker room. But, with how Calgary's season has gone so far this season, it may be best to deal him before the deadline in March and circle back on July 1st if they want Tanev on the roster again.
